Photos from New Utrecht’s win over Brooklyn Tech: Two big goal-line stops and an 82-yard touchdown run from Dayquan Russell and No. 5 New Utrecht beat No. 6 Brooklyn Tech 16-0 in Fort Greene on Saturday.
The two sides were scoreless going into the second half, but the Utes eventually scored in the third quarter when quarterback Angelo Carrera found Walid Othman open in the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown. Then, in the fourth quarter, the Utes stopped the Tech Engineers from scoring even after they had a first-and-goal at the four-yard line. On the next drive, Russell busted loose up the middle for his 82-yard touchdown that ended up being the game winner.
The Engineers were strong. Quarterback Elijah Rueda threw for 146 yards, 76 of those to Alphy Gamby, but New Utrecht’s defense was overwhelming. Khadeen Dryden had three sacks, Avery Waterton and Gianni Penso each had one as well. The Utes also had a slightly less dramatic goal-line stop in the first quarter as well.
