Photos from Canarsie’s win over Midwood

Canarsie High School has absolutely owned Midwood over the years with a winning streak that goes back to 2002 and last Friday was no different as the Chiefs easily beat the Hornets 26-0.

Palyte Stubbs led the way for Canarsie as he scored two touchdowns on 120 yards rushing. Canarsie also got touchdowns from Jeffrey Pyle, who had 56 yards rushing, and Shawn Cabbell, who had 64 yards rushing. Quarterback Jeffrey Killebrew completed four of nine pass attempts for 87 yards.

Canarsie was especially strong defensively where it got five socks on Midwood quarterback Nicholas Falzone. Devonte Malone led the defense with a pair of sacks and Darnell Alexander, Festus Oziegbe and Kamari Jones Hunter each had one. Jesse Rivera was the star on defense, though, with a pair of interceptions. Leighton Wellington had two fumble recoveries.

There wasn’t much good to say about Midwood. Its offensive line hardly protected Falzone, who didn’t complete any passes and threw two interceptions. Carl Colas was the most impressive on the team with 80 yards rushing on 13 attempts. At one point, Colas had a touchdown, but it was called off due to a holding call on the offense. William Tarver had one sack and a tackle for loss.

This was a matchup between the No. 10 team in Brooklyn (Canarsie) and the No. 8 team (Midwood). However, the power rankings will obviously change and at this point it is hard to see Midwood even staying on the list at all. The Hornets have some time to regroup now, though, as they have a somewhat easy schedule over the next couple of weeks until they face New Utrecht during Week 7. If they can improve by then and manage to beat the Utes it will likely ensure a nice comeback to the power rankings.

As for the Chiefs, they made their debut on the power rankings last week and with this win will surely move up. They seem like a team that could settle into the six or seven range on the rankings. Their next opponent is Erasmus Hall and a win against the Dutchmen would send them rocketing up the list so eyes on are Stubbs and the gang to make a move next week.
