WHO: No. 1 Lincoln vs Tottenville

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: Lincoln High School, 2800 Ocean Parkway, Brooklyn, 11235

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: This is a big one. It’s the first game of the year featuring the PSAL defending champion Lincoln Railsplitters against the Tottenville Pirates in a rematch of last year’s final. This will be a good test to see how good Lincoln is this season after it graduated some serious talent last spring.

Gone are Thomas Holley, Javon “Spanky” Moore, Malik Andrews and Antoine Holloman. None of the names replacing them have as much gravitas right now, but head coach Shawn O’Connor is hoping that they will have some household names by the end of the season. Luckily returning linemen Joe Buissereth, Agustin Amendola and Jyrell Stewart will be back on the offensive line to protect them.

Paul Litvak is the new quarter back, Prince Klutsey, a transfer from Holy Cross, is the new running back and a kid named Dayquan Audin will also be in the backfield. On the wings will be a familiar face in Luis Rodriguez as well as Michael Tud with newcomer Justice Seales, a Bishop Ford transfer.

Holley will surely be missed, but the defense is returning a few starters from last season including Alejandro Oregon, Dionte Fleming, Jordan Nicholson, Elias Davis, Maurice Allen and a few others.

Can this team be as good as last year’s that went a perfect 13-0 and won the city title? It’s possible. Friday night’s championship rematch should be a great test as everyone knows that Tottenville is elite every single year.

“There are a lot of unknown guys,” O’Connor admitted. “Some have a chip on their shoulders because nobody knew who they were last year, but they played a lot. No stars, no Holleys, no Hollomans. Just a lot of guys that can do a lot of really good things.”

My wife and I also have a house in Lincoln City, and have a VRD permit.I find myeslf offended by Lincoln City wanting our money, but not our guests.Seems to me most of the VRD rentals are cleaner and have been better maintained than some of the local residents homes (see the area in between nw 15th and 17th 1 block west off highway 101). Maybe the city should do something about that. Are they going to lower our property taxes, when our house loses value because we can’t rent them, and who is going to pick up the mortgage payments without the rental income???
