St. Francis Brooklyn’s Sheldon Hagigal was named the Northeast Conference’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after his big performance against St. Francis University last Thursday.
Hagigal shook off a bad game against Wagner the week before when he scored 23 points with five rebounds against St. Francis University (PA) on Thursday. He hit 9-of-11 shots in that game including 2-of-3 from behind the arc. It was such a big game that his four-point, two-rebound, no-assist performance against Robert Morris on Saturday was overlooked.
Hagigal had previously shared the award with LIU Brooklyn’s Iverson Fleming back on Dec. 16, 2013. That week he scored 23 points with three assists against Monmouth on Dec. 10 and 15 points with four rebounds against Canisius on Dec. 14.
In 23 games this season, Hagigal has averaged 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while playing 20.2 minutes per night as the backup point guard.
St. Francis’ Wayne Martin has also won the NEC’s Rookie of the Week award twice this year. He took it home on Nov. 11 and Dec. 2.
