The LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds just can’t get anything going this season as they have extended their latest losing streak to three games after they lost to Bryant 76-66 in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The Blackbirds had a four-point lead at halftime behind 10 points and eight rebounds from Cleandra Roberts and six points by Letava Whippy. Bryant came out strong in the second half and quickly erased that lead when Courtney Schissler hit back-to-back threes.

The Blackbirds stayed in the game for a while after that and eventually tied it at 43-43 with 9:51 left to play. Schissler hit another three to  put them down 46-43 though and Bryant slowly built up their lead after that until they led by 13 points with 56 seconds to play.

Whippy finished with a team-high 16 points, Roberts had 14 and 13 rebounds and Kelly Robinson had 12.

The Blackbirds have now dropped three in a row, are 4-16 overall and 2-7 in the Northeast Conference. There were two stretches where they appeared to be gaining momentum, one just before NEC play and another in the middle of January, but they could sustain neither.

They’ll try to get back on the winning track against Sacred Heart on Monday.
