Here were the players of the week in Brooklyn’s college basketball scene. Performances from Jan. 13 through Jan. 19 count toward this list.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

David Louison/Michael Megafu, St. Joseph’s - Louison had 30 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal, a block in one game; Megafu had 30 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and a block in 1 game: St. Joseph’s only played in one game, against my alma mater Brooklyn College, but these two were huge as they both dropped 30. Megafu had slightly better numbers, but Louison picked up his 1,000th career point so I decided to give Player of the Week to them both.

FIRST TEAM

Sophie Bhasin, LIU Brooklyn – 17.5 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block in 2 games: Bhasin was huge off the bench in the Blackbirds’ first NEC win of the season as she dropped 22 points with eight rebounds. She was strong in a losing effort against Bryant as well.

Jalen Cannon, St. Francis – 18 points, 7 rebounds, 1 block per game in 2 games: In two weeks making this list, Cannon is the only player to have appeared on both and he was nearly Player of the Week again. He had a double-double against Central Connecticut and then had 16 points, including 14 in the second half, in a close victory over Sacred Heart.

Eilidh Simpson, St. Francis - 21 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 1.5 steals in 2 games: Eilidh Simpson has emerged as one of the Terriers most consistent players. She had a double-doube, 23 points and 11 rebounds, against Mount St. Mary’s and followed up with 19 points against Sacred Heart.

Rickey Meekins, ASA College – 26.7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal in 2 games: The Avengers won in overtime early in the week and then had a blowout against my other alma mater, SUNY Orange, and Meekins played a big role in both.

Jamel Gist, Brooklyn College – 23 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists in 3 games: A big week for Gist. he started with 36 in a close loss to St. Joseph, then he dropped 14 with seven assists in a win over Hunter, and finally, he had 16 in a losing effort against City College.
