The Brooklyn Nets discussed a deal that would have potentially brought Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin to Brooklyn, but the talks quickly died down after Houston Rockets asked for Deron Williams, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPNNewYork.com.
Asik, a 27-year-old out of Turkey, could take the place of Brook Lopez, who is out for the year with a broken foot, on the Nets’ roster. he has averaged 8.7 points and 13.3 rebounds per 36 minutes with a true shooting percentage of 53.4 this season.
Lin, 25, has averaged 17.8 points with 5.3 assists per 36 minutes with a true shooting percentage of 63.6 percent. Both players are owed $8.4 million this year, next year and are free agents before the 2015-16 season.
D-Will has averaged 15.8 points and 9.1 assists per 36 minutes with a 56.5 true shooting percentage this season. He is owed $18.5 million this season and $81.6 million through the 2016-17 season.
Of course, trade talks never got serious and, at this point, don’t seem likely to resume anytime soon. It’s unlikely that any deal involving those three will work out. The money doesn’t easily work and while it would give the Nets a big-man, they seem unlikely to deal D-Will without a complete rebuild.
