Paul Pierce fined $15K for flagrant foul

Paul Pierce was fined $15,000 by the NBA earlier this week after he gave in to frustration and fouled George Hill in the third quarter of Monday’s match-up against the Indiana Pacers.

Pierce nailed Hill in the head and brought him down with his arm around Hill’s neck. After watching replay, the game’s officials ruled the move a flagrant-two and an automatic ejection. The Nets were trailing 66-47 at the time and seemingly gave up on the game when Pierce gave into frustration.

Reaction to the hit has been mixed with some fans calling it a cheap shot and others saying that Hill embellished a little bit. Honestly, I am surprised by the fine as it seemed a excessive. However, the game was over by that point and it seemed to do little to rally the Nets, who had given up on the game.

Pierce has been one of the Nets most disappointing players this season as he has averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.6 assists per 36 minutes with a true shooting percentage of 54.4, all stats that are down from last season. After returning from a broken hand, Pierce appeared to turn his season around, but his two games against the Pacers and Bulls this week were two of his worst games of the season as he shot a combined 1-for-15 in the two games.
