LIU Brooklyn’s Jason Brickman set the Northeast Conference’s all-time leading assist record last week and Cleandra Roberts led the Blackbirds to their first win of the season on Saturday. As a result both Brickman and Roberts were named NEC Player of the Week on Monday.
Brickman, who now has 808 assists in his career and is on pace for 1,005 assists by the end of the season, led the Blackbirds with 21 points and six assists in a close victory over NJIT when he set the record on Thursday. It’s the second time this season that he has been named NEC Player of the Week.
Roberts’ 23-point performance on Saturday not only helped the Blackbirds to their first win of the season, but was a career high for the senior. It was the second time in a week that she scored at least 20 as she racked up 21 points against Towson earlier in the week as well.
In addition to those two, LIU Brooklyn had Iverson Fleming honored with a NEC Co-Rookie of the Week award that he shared with St. Francis’ Sheldon Hagigal.
Fleming had a career-high 22 points against NJIT as he hit 8-of-11 shots. Fleming did an exceptional job filling in for Gilbert Parga when he was injured earlier in the season. Hagigal stepped in for Ben Mockford and led the Terriers with 15 points against Canisius on Saturday and had 23 points against Monmouth last Tuesday.
