We knew that this was coming, but the Brooklyn Nets made it official over the weekend when they announced that Brook Lopez will have foot surgery for the fourth time in his career next month.
Lopez initially broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot back in 2011 and he has already had surgery on the foot three times in the last two years including this past offseason when he had surgery to correct a bent screw.
He re-injured the foot against the Sixers when he came down awkwardly on Thaddeus Young‘s foot in the fourth quarter. He stayed in to finish the game, but afterward he didn’t stick around to speak with reporters and the next day the team announced that he was done for the season.
The surgery is set for Jan. 4. Lopez averaged 23.8 points with 6.9 rebounds per 36 minutes in 17 games this year with a 62.9 true shooting percentage.
