We’re getting close to the city title at Yankee Stadium as the Public School Athletic League high school football playoffs enter round two. There are four Brooklyn teams left in the race with Midwood, Canarsie, Grand Street and Fort Hamilton all getting eliminated last week. It was an exciting week although there was not a single upset as the better seed won every game. Will that change this week?

Here are the second round matchups with the PSAL’s official seeding:

No. 1 Lincoln vs No. 8 New Utrecht
No. 2 Erasmus Hall vs No. 7 JFK
No. 6 Boys High at No. 3 Tottenville
No. 4 Flushing vs No. 5 New Dorp

TEAM TO BEAT: Nothing has changed here as Lincoln is still the favorites. Their defense is going to want to tighten up though after it allowed 30 points to Midwood last week.

UPSET POTENTIAL: Boys High has its work cut out for them against an always competitive Tottenville team, but they have the young players that are capable of big surprises. The key for them would be to match Tottenville’s intensity on defense, which would including stopping Andrew Russo. If they can contain the Pirates offense then I can see them coming out ahead in a close match.

THE OTHER BOROS: Four Brooklyn teams might have been eliminated last week, but that had more to do with matchups then some idea that Flushing and New Dorp are among the top eight teams. After all, both teams had easier schedules than both New Utrecht and Fort Hamilton and Canarsie beat them both. I don’t see how either team is going to advance past the third round no matter who they play.

WEEK TWO PREDICTIONS: Lincoln over New Utrecht, Erasmus Hall over JFK, Boys High over Tottenville, and Flushing over New Dorp.
