With Poly Prep’s football season over, it appeared that Jay Hayes‘ high school career was over and the next step for him was on to Notre Dame next season. However, Hayes will play in one more game as he was picked to play in the International Bowl, according to Julian Garcia of the New York Daily News.

The International Bown is pits the U.S. Under-19 National Team against Team Canada  on Feb. 7 at the University of Texas at Arlington. It’s the third meeting of the two nations. Canada won last year 23-17 and the U.S. won four years ago 41-3.

Hayes led Poly Prep to a 7-1 season as they outscored opponents 272-107. Though Hayes has tried to convince the Eagle that Poly Prep should be ranked No. 1 in the city, they finished their season ranked No. 2 behind Lincoln High School. It’s possible, that if Lincoln doesn’t win the city title, Poly Prep could slide into that No. 1 spot.

Next season Hayes will play for Notre Dame where he is expected to be a defensive lineman. His coach at Poly Prep expects big things in the future for Hayes and said that his success in the NCAA depends on how he adjusts to that level.

“When you’re that good, can you stay healthy, can you pick up the scheme, can you adjust to college?” Poly Prep head coach Dino Mangiero told the News, “Those are all the questions he’ll face.”
