The ASA Avengers had one heck of a season as they won their last eight games in a row to dominate their way to a Northeast Football Conference championship last week. As a result, they have had an incredible 14 players included on the NEFC All-Conference team, the NEFC announced on Thursday.
Eight players made the NEFC first-team including quarterback Aaron Young, running back Donavan Williams, receivers Olu Izegwire and Jesse Yorke, and on defense Cory Johnson, Rashaun Smith, Alexander Ajanaku-Wells and Vance Roberts. Young led the NEFC with 176.1 yards per game, Williams was second with 105.7 yards rushing per game and Izegwire was second in receiving yards per game with 66.4.
Making the NEFC Second Team were receiver Quinton Sullivan, linemen Kelby Johnson, Rotchill Medor and Curtis Williams and defensive backs Malacchi Esdale and D’Angelo Niler.
It’s certainly no surprise to see so many Avengers making the team. After they lost their first game of the year to Georgia Military College, one of the tougher National Junior College Athletic Association teams in the country, they won eight in a row by an average score of 43-8. That included a perfect 5-0 record in the NEFC.
The Avengers won their second NEFC championship with a 37-7 win over Nassau Community College to earn a spot against DuPage in the second annual Carrier Dome Bowl on Nov. 22 at Syracuse University.
