The ASA College Avengers beat Nassau Community College 37-7 out in Long Island on Saturday afternoon to repeat as the Northeast Football Conference champions behind 144 yards rushing and three touchdowns by Donav Williams.
The win helped to move the Avengers up the 10th spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings. The Avengers finished 8-1 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. They will move on to the second annual Carrier Dome Bowl on Nov. 22 in Syracuse.
Nassau never really stood much of a chance in this game as the Avengers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter when quarterback Aaron Young found Jesse Yorke in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown catch with 8:18 left in the first quarter. Dillon Lawson kicked a 25-yard field goal later in the quarter and Williams picked up his first rushing touchdown, a seven-yarder with 7:53 left in the second, to put the Avengers up 17-0 heading into halftime.
They continued to pile on in the third quarter as Young found Yorke again, this time on a two-yard touchdown pass, to make it 23-0 and Williams scored again to make it 30-0. Nassau did manage a touchdown late in the third, but by then it was much too late and another Williams rushing touchdown in the fourth made sure of that.
Young finished with 156 yards passing and two touchdowns, Yorke caught both touchdowns for 41 yards and QUint Sullivan had six catches for 72 yards. On the defensive end, ASA had sacks from Turquan WOod and Monte Taylor, two picks by Malacch Esdale and another by Julio Derosier.
