Paul Pierce played for the Boston Celtics for his entire 15-year career until he was traded to the Nets this offseason and had hoped to retire in Boston green. It obviously didn’t work out that way and for the first time since he was traded he faced the Celtics in a preseason game at the Barclays Center.
“It was just tough looking over there, seeing the green and me not in it,” Pierce told Mike Mazzeo of ESPNNewYork.com. “But you know, I’m here in Brooklyn now, moved on and it’s time to get better. Tonight we took a step forward in getting better and it’s just the preseason, but hey, we got the win.”
It wasn’t such a big deal though as it was just a preseason game, Kevin Garnett didn’t even play and most of all it wasn’t in Boston.
“It’s definitely gonna be a lot different when I get into the Garden, the first time I go to Boston,” Pierce said. “Because you’ve played your entire career there, made so many friends, so it’s definitely gonna be emotional.
“I don’t know if I’m looking forward to it, because I already know I’m going to shed a tear or two. But it’s the business. I’m here in Brooklyn now and I wish everybody there good luck.”
Pierce was seen chatting and joking around with his former teammates throughout the game on Tuesday night. He even visited the Celtics locker room before the game. He’s such a fierce competitor though that I wouldn’t be surprised if by the second time the Nets faced the Celtics in the regular season if he wasn’t trash talking them.
