First New York and then the world.

The Brooklyn Nets are on a path where they are trying to become the biggest, or at least one of the biggest, names in the NBA. That’s why owner Mikhail Prokhorov has spent the way he has in order to win a title because what good is a franchise that has never won a NBA chip?

Part of being one of the biggest names in the NBA starts with being the biggest name in your own town. The Nets’ CEO Brett Yormark wasted no words on the Michael Kay show this week by stated that being the best in New York is exactly their goal.

“When we were in Jersey, we were not relevant,” Yormark told Michael Kay. “We wanted to be part of the conversation and slowly we are becoming the conversation. There’s a lot of anticipation for this team. We’ve got incredible star power, and I think the goal right now is to own New York and I think we’re looking, hoping to do that.”

I think they are on their way. Right now, as of writing this, a case could easily be made that the Nets are the best team in the New York City area in any of the four major sports. That certainly doesn’t mean anything though as the Heat, Pacers, and Spurs don’t play in New York, but at least it’s a start.
