Brooklyn Games to Watch: Oct. 14 – Oct. 20

Oct. 14

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 3, York College 1 (25-18, 25-18, 11-25, 25-17): The Bulldogs were led by Julia Bogdan with 11 kills, Crystal Wu with 19 assists and Jillian Escobar with 11 digs.

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 3, College of Staten Island 2 (25-17, 20-25, 32-30, 21-25, 15-11): The Bulldogs were led by Julia Bogdan with 14 kills, Crystal Wu with 22 assists and Jillian Escobar with 10 digs.

Oct. 15

Buffalo Sabres 4, New York Islanders 3 (SO): The Islanders led 1-0, 2-1, and 3-2, but could not hold. Evgeni Nabokov was in net for the loss, Frans Nielsen, Matt Martin and Matt Moulson (PPG) had the goals. The Sabres outscored them in the shootout 2-1. The game winner coming from Tyler Ennis.

Brooklyn Nets 82, Boston Celtics 80: The Nets hosted the Celtics and Paul Pierce scored four points with 10 rebounds and five assists in 27 minutes against his former team. Brook Lopez led with 20 points and Andray Blatche had 14.

Oct. 16

Brooklyn College Women’s Soccer 6, St. Joseph’s College Brooklyn 1: These Bulldogs improved to 10-1 on the season after a nice win at home. Shani Abrahams and Jordan Kerwin each had two goals, and Bergelie Louis and Shan Nakhid-Schuster both had one. Sayla Flores assisted on the final three goals of the game.

Brooklyn College Men’s Soccer 2, Maritime College 0: The Bulldogs picked up their eighth shutout of the season as senior Dmitry Prokofyev and freshman Kenny Benitez scored goals during the 48th minute and 78th minutes respectively. Junior Kamil Ostrowski got his sixth shutout in net.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 0, Seton Hall 3 (25-23, 25-20, 25-20): The Blackbirds were shutout by Seton Hall in three straight sets. Tamara Ignjic led with 13 kills, Vera Djuric had 30 assists and Adriana Vinas Joy had 16 digs.

Oct. 17

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 2, College of New Rochelle 3 (25-16, 16-25, 13-25, 25-20, 15-12): The Bulldogs lost a golden opportunity as they were up 2-sets-to-1, but dropped the last two for the loss. Julia Bogdan led with 17 kills and 15 digs, Crystal Wu had 31 assists, and Lisenia Rodriguez also had 15 digs.

New York Islanders 3, Edmonton Oilers 2: Evgeni Nabokov made some phenomenal plays in net, especially on the penalty kill, and John Tavares (4) got the game winner. Josh Bailey (3) and Kyle Okposo (2) also scored as the Isles improved to 3-2-2 on the season.

Brooklyn Nets 86, Miami Heat 62: The Nets retired Jason Kidd’s jersey and then beat the Wade-less Heat. Brook Lopez had 14 points, Andray Blatche had 10, Joe Johnson had 10, and Alan Anderson had 12.

Oct. 18

LIU Brooklyn Men’s Soccer 2, Robert Morris 1: Nathan Stewart and Brice Merwine scored goals and goalkeeper Logan Keys kept the Blackbirds on top as he allowed just one goal on five shots for the win.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Soccer 0, Wagner 1: Jess Sexton allowed just one goal, but the Blackbirds couldn’t get any offense as it was shutout as they dropped to 3-10-1 on the season.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 3, St. Francis Brooklyn 0: (25-8, 25-14, 25-12): In the Battle of Brooklyn, the Blackbirds dominated the Terriers. (25-8, 25-14, 25-12): In the Battle of Brooklyn, the Blackbirds dominated the Terriers. Without Annika Foit, LIU Brooklyn’s Nicole Okeke and Tamara Ignjic led with 12 kills each, Mirjana Rajic had 11 kills, Vera Djuric had 34 assits and 12 digs and Adriana Vinas Joy also had 12 digs. For St. Francis, Maggie Niu had six kills, Kelly O’Halloran had 13 assists, and Feliz Ramirez had 10 digs.

LIU Brooklyn Men’s Soccer 1, St. Francis University 0: A very nice win for the Blackbirds as they beat St. Francis University on a 52nd minute goal by Nahuel Medina and four saves by Logan Keys.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Soccer 1, Sacred Heart 0: Jenn Peters picked up her first goal of the season during the 26th minute and Jess Sexton picked up her fourth shutout of the year as the Blackbirds picked up a much needed win.
