The New York Islanders don’t officially come to Brooklyn until the 2015-16 season, but they will play an exhibition game here later this month and will host their first practice at the Barclays Center next Thursday, Sept. 12, according to Kevin Maher of News 12.

It’s just a one day thing as they will host the rest of their training camp at IceWorks and the Coliseum. It’s not open to the public either which is odd as this seems like a publicity stunt. However, it certainly can’t hurt to do a trial run of setting up the ice and getting it ready for hockey before the Islanders host the Devils in a preseason game on Sept. 21.

Like I said, the Islanders are not scheduled to move into the Barclays Center full-time until the 2015-16 season. After it was announced that Brooklyn Nets minority owner Bruce Ratner won the bid to renovate the Nassau Coliseum, he mentioned that there was a small, but unlikely possibility to move the Islanders one year earlier. That is expected to be officially announced soon.
