Brooklyn Tech led 17-8 at halftime and Tristan Brown had already rushed for over 100 yards and had a pair of touchdowns. The win looked inevitable.
Sheepshead Bay turned up their own running game in the second half and mounted an impressive comeback behind two touchdowns by Imani Vincent, and one each from Jim Campbell and Stephan Garrick to pull out the unlikely 32-17 come from behind victory at Brooklyn Tech on Saturday.
The Sharks wasted no time in the second half as they marched down the field during their first drive and scored on a keeper by Vincent to make it 17-16 Tech. Brooklyn Tech got a big 45-yard run by Lawrence Menyah on the next drive, but failed to score as it turned the ball over on downs in the red zone.
That opened up an opportunity for Sheepshead and Garrick took advantage with a 57-yard run followed up by a 30-yard touchdown run by Campbell as the Sharks took a 24-17 lead. They kept it up in the fourth quarter as well when Joshua McClean ran for a 35-yards to setup a 12-yard run by Garrick that put them up 32-17 with less than four minutes left in the game.
It was a disappointing finish for the Engineers, who became frustrated and were forced into mistakes. The biggest was a fourth quarter pass by Elijah Rueda that was picked off by Vincent. Between that play and a few turnover on downs, the Engineers were completely shutout in the second half.
For Sheepshead Bay Stephan Garrick had a team high 114 yards rushing with one touchdown; Imani Vincent had 81 yards rushing, two touchdowns and an interception; Jim Campbell rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown; and Joshua McClean had 81 yards rushing. Tristan Brown led Brooklyn Tech with 163 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
