No. 5 Fort Hamilton (4-0) remains undefeated as it held off a late game rally by No. 9 Sheepshead Bay (1-3) to beat them 26-20 in Bay Ridge on Saturday behind three touchdowns and 95 rushing yards by Isaiah Washington and an impressive performance by sophomore quarterback Sharif Legree.
FORT HAM DOMINATES EARLY: The Fort Hamilton Tigers came out strong thanks to Washington who had a 22-yard rushing touchdown about nine minutes into the game. After a Michael Brooks interception, Washington scored again on a 60-yard dash and the score was 12-0 to closeout the first quarter. The Tigers kept it going in the second quarter when Legree found Juan Tejada for a 36-yard catch that set up a one-yard touchdown run by Brooks to make it 20-0.
WASHINGTON WITH 3 TDs: The Sheepshead Bay Sharks finally got on the board when quarterback Imani Vincent scored on a one-yard touchdown run to make it 20-6. Fort Hamilton answered back immediately though as Washington scored his third touchdown on a five-yard run, 26-6 at halftime.
SHEEPSHEAD BAY COMEBACK: The second half started slow, but Sheepshead Bay quickly scored on a three-yard run by Jim Campbell to make it 26-12 just 27 seconds into the fourth quarter. With 1:33 left on the clock, Sheepshead Bay’s Vincent intercepted the ball and ran it back 50-yards before he was tackled. That set up an eight-yard pass by Vincent to Stephan Garrick to make it 26-20.
TOO LATE: The problem was there were just 30 seconds on the clock at that point. Sheepshead Bay tried for the onside kick, but it didn’t work. Fort Hamilton kneeled and the game was over. The Tiger’s early offense bought them just enough time to hold off a late surge by the Sharks.
Sharif Legree connected on eight of 11 pass attempts for 119 yards. He also ran for 23 yards. Isaiah Washington ran for 95 yards on seven attempts and had three touchdowns. Michael Brooks had 66 yards rushing, 13 yards catching, a touchdown and an interception. Juan Tejeda had 11 tackles.
Imani Vincent complete seven of 15 passing attempts for 90 yards and also ran for another 51 yards. He had one passing touchdown and one rushing. Jim Campbell had 64 yards on five attempts with a touchdown. Stephan Garrick had three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown, he also had 65 yards on kick returns.
