The New York Islanders had their first training camp at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Thursday. They don’t officially move in until 2015-16, but they are hosting the Devils during a preseason game on Sept. 21 this month so this was practice run for the team and the arena before fans show up next week.
“It sucks (that we couldn’t find a way to stay on Long Island),” Islanders forward Matt Moulson admitted to the Eagle. “I’ve never been here before, but I think Brooklyn will make for a very energetic crowd. It’s tough to leave Long Island and all the fans that have been there for us through the years. But it’s not something we as players can worry about. It’s not in our control. As players, we have to put ourselves in position to have every advantage possible, which this building will do.”
I actually have another event to cover for the newspaper tonight so I won’t have much time to get a story up from today. Until then you can read our own John Torenli’s story, Islanders Caught in the Middle, about the event and check out my pictures from today. I’ll also upload some video before I go to help hold you over until tonight.
