The New York Islanders don’t officially move into the Barclays Center until the 2015-16 season, but they will be holding their first official training camp session there on Thursday, Sept. 12.
The practice session is closed to the public, but they are going to make a big media to do about the entire thing starting with a press conference in Long Island. Then the team will take the Long Island Rail Road to the Barclays Center, have another press conference, then have their on ice practice before making themselves available to post practice interviews with the media.
Islanders Matt Martin and Frans Nielsen will take part in the Long Island presser along with general manager Garth Snow. At 10:00 a.m., Nets minority owner Bruce Ratner and CEO Brett Yormark will lead the media in a tour of the hockey setup. Owner Charles Wang and head coach Jack Capuano will also be on hand.
This practice being held at the Barclays Center is leading up to the Islanders/Devils preseason game that will be played there on Saturday, Sept. 21. I’m sure that everything will go smoothly on that day, but it can’t hurt to have a live run of setting up the arena for hockey before an actual game.
