LIU Brooklyn’s volleyball player, junior Vera Djuric, was named the Molten/Northeast Conference’s Co-Player of the Week for her excellent weekend at the Nike Invitational, the NEC announced earlier this week.
The Blackbirds went just 1-2 over the weekend with a victory over Nebraska-Omaha and losses to Tulsa and Oklahoma, but Djuric was exceptional all weekend as she notched double-doubles in each match. Against Tulsa, Djuric had a game high 39 assists to go with 23 digs in five sets. Against Nebraska-Omaha, she had 33 assists and 10 digs in three sets, and she had 36 assists and 10 digs against Oklahoma in four sets.
Djuric also played well in the Blackbirds win against Hofstra earlier in the week as she had 29 assists and six digs.
This is the fifth time in her college career that Djuric earned weekly honors. Of course, she was also named the 2011 adn 2012 NEC Setter of the Year. LIU Brooklyn has now had a player honored with a weekly award four weeks in a row as Djuric joins Annika Foit, Player of the Week, Adriana Vinas Joy, Defensive Player of the Week, and both Foit and Jessica Rice for Player and Defensive Player of the Week to start the season.
Djuric shares the award with Makenna Lommori of Central Connecticut, who had 121 assists in three victories last weekend.
The Blackbirds begin the NEC portion of their schedule when they take on Bryant in Brooklyn this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. They were 7-6 in non-conference play including a perfect 4-0 at home.
