The LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball team dropped two of three over the weekend, but the weekend did have its silver linings including the play of sophomore libero Adriana Vinas Joy who was named the Northeast Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for last week.

Vinas Joy led her team with 62 digs, or 5.17 digs per set, in three matches over the weekend including 17 against Penn and Maryland and an amazing 28 against UMKC on Saturday. Her mark of 28 against UMKC is a season high for her.

Despite the fact that the Blackbirds have started the season with a 2-4 record, they have already received a few accolades in addition to this one. Just last week Annika Foit won NEC Player of the Week, as she picked up 25 kills, 21 digs, and seven services aces the previous weekend, and Jessica Rice won NEC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Blackbirds are back in action this weekend as they host the Blackbird Invitation with Cornell, Colgate, and Fairfield coming into town for three matches. Be sure to check out the weekly schedule for scores and updates to all LIU Brooklyn games.
