Erasmus Hall beat a tough, but young Boys and Girls High School football team 20-0 at Old Boys High Field in East Flatbush on Sunday behind a pair of touchdowns from Ohio State commit Curtis Samuel and another by Kahlil Lewin to improve to a perfect 2-0 on the season.
Samuel had a five-yard rushing touchdown on E-Hall’s first drive of the game to make it 6-0, but after that Boys High, a team with exactly one starter from last year’s squad remaining, played a tough game to finish out the half. The only other time the Dutchmen threatened to score in the first half was after Samuel faked a punt and ran the ball down field for a 14-yard first down. However, even after that successful trick play, Boys High managed to force them to punt again.
Unfortunately for the Kangaroos, they couldn’t get enough momentum on offense. Their best chance came early in the second quarter when they drove the ball a little over 40 yards to get into the red zone. They took a shot at scoring too, but E-Hall’s Darin Peart picked off a Dashawn Brice pass in the end zone intended for Kwabena Young to kill that drive. Late in the first half the Kangaroos threatened again, but were stopped at the E-Hall 17.
The Dutchmen got their groove back in the second half. Samuel busted out a 45-yard run that setup a three-yard touchdown run by Lewin to make it 12-0. Finally, early in the fourth quarter, E-Hall struck for a third time as Samuel ran in a three-yard touchdown and a two-point conversion made it 20-0.
• This was the first game of the season for Boys High, who was schedule to play Jefferson in the first week but a boycott by the Orange Wave forced them to forfeit. They face Harry S. Truman from the Bronx next week.
• Erasmus Hall will take on Campus Magnet at Sid Luckman Field in Brooklyn on Saturday.
