HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK
WHO: No. 1 Erasmus Hall (1-0) vs Boys and Girls (1-0)
WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 15 at 12:00 p.m.
WHERE: Sid Luckman Field in Brooklyn
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT: Boys and Girls High School is typically a strong program in Brooklyn, but they graduated a lot of kids after last season and are still searching to figure out how good they are. What better way to do that than against Erasmus Hall, who is coming off a PSAL championship last season and a win against Tottenville last week.
Looking at this year’s Boys High roster and you’ll see a lot of names missing like Najee Champagne, who rushed for 760 yards with 16 touchdowns last season, Richardson Derosena, who had 411 overall yards and four touchdowns, and Keon Marsh, who passed for 1,189 yards and 12 touchdowns.
This season they are going to need to find replacement players. Among the possibilities include Jonathan Giles, who had 157 yards receiving with a pair of touchdowns last year, and Wesley Gibbons, who had four sacks last season including two in a big playoff game against Flushing.
It’s going to be a rough way to start their season as they only won last week as Jefferson was forced to forfeit because their players were still boycotting the firing of their head coach last May. So their first official game this season has to be against the defending city champions.
It’s going to be tough going up against E-Hall, who has running back/receiver Curtis Samuels, a Ohio State commit and one of the best players in the city. Behind him is senior running back Kahlil Lewin, who’s speed is only outmatched by Samuels. They’re far from a one or two player team too as Elijah Davis, Jose Duncan, Darin Peart, and others proved that this team is still going to be tough as they try to defend their city title.
