A six game tournament called the Funsport High School Classic was at Thomas Jefferson in East New York last Saturday. Unfortunately, the Brooklyn Eagle wasn’t there, but Gotham Hoops was. Ray Anczelowicz ran through a few of the tournaments top performers and, of course, quite a few of them were Brooklyn’s own.
Lincoln High School participated so of course Isaiah Whitehead was among the group of top prospects. Another one of Lincoln’s players stood out though — sophomore Rakim Fielder. The 6-footer scored 17 points and had seven rebounds while playing solid defense. Anczelowicz wrote, “An explosive athlete, Fielder excelled around the basket, proving capable of finishing acrobatic lay-ins with contact.”
The other three Brooklynites included seniors Matt Scott and Juan Ramos of Brooklyn Law & Tech and sophomore Wolfgang Novagratz of Poly Prep.
Of the three, Scott sounded like he had the best weekend (although all had great weekends to be included in this list). Scott scored 21 points with 15 boards and eight assists in his first game of the weekend, a win over Banneker, and then had 32 points in his second, a loss to Poly Prep. Novagratz had a 19 point, 11 rebound, and eight assist game against Brooklyn Law and Ramos had a 26 point performance in the same game.
