Brooklyn Games to Watch: Sept. 23 – Sept. 29

These are the big games going on in Brooklyn sports this week. Check back here throughout the week for scores, photos, and highlights of these games as they happen.

Sept 23

Brooklyn College Men’s Soccer 4, Berkeley College (NY) 0: It’s the second consecutive 4-0 shutout for the Bulldogs as they got goals from Gabriel Narvaez, Kenny Benitez, and two from Dmitry Prokofyev. Kamil Ostrowski was in net for the shutout.

Sept 24

Brooklyn College Women’s Soccer 1, College of Staten Island 3: The Bulldogs’ seven game winning streak came to an end as they allowed their first three goals of the season to CSI. Jordan Kerwin scored the first goal of the game in, but a poor second half cost them in the end.

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 3, NYU-Poly 1 (25-20, 25-23, 19-25, 25-17): It was nearly a sweep, but NYU-Poly pulled out the third set. Still a good performance by the Bulldogs who improved to 5-4 on the season. Julia Bogdan and Jillian Escobar led with 10 kills each, Crystal Wu had 29 assists and Lisenia Rodriguez had 22 digs.

Sept 25

ASA College Men’s Soccer 1, Suffolk Community College 0 (2OT)

Brooklyn College Men’s Soccer 4, Hunter College 1: The Bulldogs are now 2-0 in conference play after this strong performance. Oleg Tykhonravov had two goals, both in the second half, and Igor Pacca and Dmitry Prokofyev had the other two goals. Stamatis Boundouris allowed one goal and made four saves in net.

LIU Brooklyn Men’s Soccer 0, Columbia 3: The Blackbirds are in a rut as their record drops to 1-6-1 in non-conference games this season. Logan Keys allowed all three goals and made eight saves. Only Matt Mummert and Nick Cavaretta had shots on goal.

St. Francis Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 0, Iona College 3 (23-25, 20-25, 10-25): This was pretty much a route as the Terriers fall to 4-13 on the season. Leah Zitting led with six kills, Kamalei Clifton had 18 assits, and Feliz Ramirez had 12 digs.

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 0, Lehman College 3 (25-20, 25-14, 25-14)
St. Francis Brooklyn Men’s Soccer vs St. Joseph’s, 7:00 p.m.

Sept 27

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 0, New York University 3 (25-6, 25-11, 25-13)

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 0, Susquehanna University 3 (25-8, 25-9, 25-9)

ASA College Women’s Soccer 2, Monroe College 3 (2OT): The Avengers started strong as they opened with a 2-0 lead, but Monroe tied it at the 85th minute and forced a double overtime where it won during the 103rd minute on a Areli Luna goal. Ariel Almodovar and Sara Sanau Ruiz had the goals for ASA. Elizabeth Tyson had six saves.

Sept 28

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 0, Farmingdale State College 3 (25-13, 25-17, 25-13)

Brooklyn College Men’s Soccer 3, Baruch College 4: The Bulldogs fought hard to tie the game at 3-3 during the 71st minute of the match, but then allowed a goal during the 86th minute as Baruch won the game. Dmitry Prokofyev had all three goals for a hat trick.

ASA College Men’s Soccer vs Westchester Community College, 1:00 p.m.

St. Francis Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 3, Central Connecticut 2 (15-25, 14-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-13): After falling behind two sets to none, the Terriers fought back to win their first NEC match in five. Maggie Niu led with 20 kills, Kamalei Clifton had 24 assists and Feliz Ramirez had 30 digs.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 3, Bryant 0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-14): The Blackbirds swept their first NEC match. Annika Foit led with 15 kills, Vera Djuric had 33 assists and Adriana Vinas Joy had 22 digs.

Brooklyn College Women’s Volleyball 0, Stevens Institute of Technology 3 (25-12, 25-9, 25-13)

LIU Brooklyn Men’s Soccer 2, Fairfield 1: Kevin Lockhart won the game during the 88th minute off an assist from Tanner Sica. John Connolly stopped five of the six shots he faced as the Blackbirds won.

ASA College Football 40, Army JV 16: Aaron Young threw for 212 yards and three touchdowns, Donav Williams had 148 yards rushing with one touchdown and Olu Izigwire had 103 yards receiving. Alex Wells had two interceptions.

St. Francis Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 0, Bryant University 3 (20-25, 17-25, 22-25): In their second NEC game, the Terriers were swept in three sets. Domenique Gerard led with seven kills, Kelly O’Halloran had 15 assists and Feliz Ramirez had seven digs.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball 3, Central Connecticut 1 (22-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16): Another NEC win for the Blackbirds as they dropped their first set, but rallied to win the next three. Tamara Ignjic led with 17 kills, Vera Djuric had 46 assists and Adriana Vinas Joy had 15 digs.

St. Francis Brooklyn Men’s Soccer 1, Harvard 0: The Terriers scored during the 9th minute on a header by Riccardo Milano and made it stand up as Jack Binks made four saves for the shutout.

LIU Brooklyn Women’s Soccer 0, Columbia 3: The Blackbirds lost their final non-conference game of the season as Jessica Sexton allowed three goals on eight shots on goal.
