Yesterday it was announced the LIU Brooklyn Women’s Soccer team was picked to finish second this year in a coaches poll. That might be a slight insult to the team that won back-to-back Northeast Conference championships. However, the LIU Men’s Soccer team didn’t even get that much respect as it was picked to finish seventh in the latest coaches poll that was announced on Wednesday.
St. Francis College Men’s Soccer team, who finished 2012 with a 7-10-1 record, and did not qualify for the playoffs, was picked to finish sixth in the coaches poll. LIU, who finished last season with a 2-14-2 record were picked to finish seventh.
Fairleigh Dickinson, who got all but one of the first place votes after it won the NEC Tournament last season, was picked to finish first. Central Connecticut placed second and St. Francis University (PA) got the other first place vote, but finished in third.
These polls give an interesting insight to what coaches expect to happen this season, but there is a long way to go to find out which teams live up to expectations. LIU Brooklyn opens its season in San Francisco on Friday, Aug. 30. St. Francis also opens that day at the University of Connecticut.
