The Brooklyn Nets held open auditions for their Brooklyn Nets Kids Dance Team at Long Island University in Fort Greene on Wednesday with 500 kids on hand to show off their skills.
Celebrity choreographer Tanisha Scott, with the help of five of the Brooklynettes and three members from last season’s dance team, showed the kids some moves, had them practice, and then evaluated them. They went from 500 kids to 120 then down to 50. Right now they are evaluating the final 50 kids who tried out and will eventually announce a group of 16 kids to be on this year’s team.
“You are auditioning with at least 500 other kids there, but when you are in that moment when you are one of the kids that made it it’s amazing,” Christina DiMancha, a Nets Kids Dance Team member from last season said. “It’s such a fun experience. Being on the dance team was such a fun experience the entire time.”
Once they’ve made the team, the final 16 kids will be members of the team that will dance at Nets home games at the Barclays Center and will represent the team at local events and media appearances.
