This was first brought to our attention by Brook Lopez and then Tyshawn Taylor confirmed it to the Brooklyn Eagle during an event at Boys and Girls High School a couple of weeks ago — Deron Williams has organized a player’s only meeting in California as a way to get the team together sooner than training camp, according to Josh Newman of SNY Nets.

The workouts are being held in California to accommodate Paul Pierce‘s schedule. In addition to D-Will and Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Joe Johnson, and Brook Lopez, who only recently had a protective boot taken off his foot, will be in attendance. Mason Plumlee also tweeted something about it and based on what Taylor said we can assume that he will be there as well.

The Daily News reported that the only players who are not there are Andray Blatche, Reggie Evans, Tornike Shengelia, Mirza Teletovic, and Andrei Kirilenko.

The Nets held similar workouts last summer so with eight new players on the roster it’s not surprising to hear them doing it again. The workouts began on Sunday and will run through Friday.

Kevin Garnett spoke about the importance of this team gelling as quickly as possible. That, he said, could end up being the most important thing this team has to do as they attempt a championship run. These guys are motivated to win.
