The Miami Heat are not doing with their offseason quite yet it appears as they have expressed interest free agent point guard Sebastian Telfair, according to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com.

Telfair has been linked to the Knicks quite often this offseason, but he’s now been linked to the Heat for the third time since July. The number of rumors is of little significance though as neither team seems to have gotten serious in contract talks with Bassy yet. The Thunder have also been mentioned in rumors involving Telfair.

The Heat could use Telfair as a veteran guard off the bench and somebody to soak up minutes in the regular season, especially against inferior teams. He would be behind both Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole though so perhaps look for Bassy to be more likely to sign with the Knicks. Still, Cole didn’t play a ton of playoff minutes so perhaps they are looking for an alternative.

Telfair, who played at Lincoln High School before he was taken with the 13th pick in the 2004 NBA Draft, averaged 12.2 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per 36 minutes in 59 games with the Suns and Raptors last season.
