The LIU Brooklyn Women’s Volleyball team won the Northeast Conference championship and, according to a preseason coaches poll that was released on Thursday, they are expected to repeat this season as they were chosen to finish in first place in the NEC.
LIU Brooklyn received six first-place votes to finish ahead of Robert Morris in second and Central Connecticut, who got two first place votes, in third. St. Francis Brooklyn finished in eighth place on the same list.
The Blackbirds have appeared in nine of the past 10 NEC Tournament championship matches and won seven of them which is tied with Robert Morris for the most titles in NEC history. Last year’s NEC Coach of the Year Kyle Robinson, who is just four wins shy of 100 for his career, returns along with six starters from last year’s perfect 18-0 team that won the NEC championship.
The 2012 NEC Player of the Year Annika Foit, who ranked second in the NEC with 3.93 kills per set also returns along with Vera Djuric, 2012 NEC Setter of the Year, Adriana Vinas Joy, the 2012 NEC Libero of the Year, and Jessica Rice.
