The LIU Brooklyn Women’s Soccer team is expected to be good this season, it won the Northeast Conference championship last year and was picked second in a preseason coaches poll, but it has experienced a large roster turnover and the Blackbirds are going through a period of adjustment.
They dropped their first exhibition game last week to Army and in their second contest, against Drexel on Saturday, they lost again 2-0 in Philadelphia.
“The team was able to improve its team defending and organization overall, however we struggled keeping possession against a tough Drexel team,” head coach Tracey Bartholomew said. “We need to do a better job at playing to our strengths of keeping the ball on the ground and maintaining our composure with the ball.”
There has been 12 new players overall this season. After the loss to Army Bartholomew said that it’s just early season growing pains. After their second loss they are determined to keep working hard in preparation for their opening game against St. Joseph’s at LIU on Friday.
