Queens native Kyle Hunt has been invited to work out for the Brooklyn Nets on Sept. 9 with the hopes of earning an invitation to training camp, according to Josh Newman of SNY.
Hunt, who graduated from Martin Van Buren High School, played one season at each the Snead Community College in Alabama, Middle Tennessee, and the University of Sciences and Arts in Oklahoma before spending a year playing in Uruguay. He averaged 18.8 points, 9.6 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game in 17 games in Uruguay.
The Nets will likely have a few other players working out for them in the upcoming weeks as they prepare to fill out their training camp roster. He has no shot at making the team at this point, but the Nets D-League affiliate, the Springfield Armor, have exclusive rights to the final three players cut from camp. So this is essentially a tryout for that team. If he doesn’t hook up with somebody by camp, Hunt is expected to be drafted in the D-League draft this fall.
