Everyone is already expecting that Kevin Garnett will bring the Brooklyn Nets toughness and defense on the court, but another common theme that people expect as well is that KG will help improve Brook Lopez‘s game as well.
Lopez is already one of the best centers in the NBA today, but that is mostly because of his offense. There are a few knocks on him that just won’t go away though, like he doesn’t play defense well enough and is too soft, and that’s where Garnett, a polar opposite, could rub off on him. Or at least that’s the hope and expectation.
“(KG)will do wonders for Lopez,” Ian Eagle, the Nets play-by-play announcer, said in a recent interview with FM News 101 KXL. “Lopez is a guy that has more in him and we saw signs of that last year. Garnett will be on this guy every single day, in practice and from the bench.”
As good as Lopez was last season, he averaged just 8.2 rebounds per 36 minutes. His defensive win share (DWS) of 2.6 was the second highest of his career though, a sign that he is trying to improve defensively. Hopefully teaming up with Garnett can help improve that even further.
