Brooklyn’s Sierra Calhoun, who plays basketball for Queens’ Christ the King and grew up in Park Slope, has verbally committed to play basketball at Duke next season, according to multiple reports.
Calhoun is easily one of the best, if not the best, girl’s basketball player in New York City. She scored the 1,000 point of her career as a junior last season and averaged 21.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. Other schools she considered included UConn, where her brother Omar Calhoun plays, Notre Dame, and Tennessee.
Calhoun joins Sue Bird, Chamique Holdsclaw, Clare Droesch, Tina Charles, Carrem Gay, and Bria Smith as other Christ the King players to play for major Division I schools.
