In 2010 Danny Jacobs fought Dmitry Pirog for the WBO Middleweight Championship, he came up short. Three years and one bout with a life threatening form of bone cancer later and Jacobs is set to take on Giovanni Lorenzo for the vacant WBC Continental title at the Barclays Center next month.

“All this for me? This is amazing. I’m truly blessed,” the Brownsville native and Erasmus High School grad said during a Times Square press conference on Wednesday to announce the headline bout.”God has been with me since day one. I’m fortunate to be here and to have my own main event.”

The Brooklyn Eagle’s Sports Editor John Torenli has the story of Jacobs, his battle with osteosarcoma, and his triumphant return to the ring. Give it a read. If you weren’t rooting for him before just because he’s from Brooklyn, you’ll be rooting for him after JT’s piece.
