Nazareth Kingsman forwards Samson Usilo and Samson Akilo recently took the team from CHSAA Class B champions to Class A champions in just one year and now both have verbally committed to Manhattan College, according to Zach Braziller of the NY Post.
The 6-foot-4 Usilo, who averaged 20 points per game last year for his East Flatbush school, went with Manhattan College Jaspers over Hofstra, Quinnipiac, and St. Peter’s. This was the first Division-I offer for the 6-foot-8 Akilo, who also got an offer from LIU last week.
Usilo had been giving serious consideration to the other schools that offered him, but quickly changed his tune once his friend got an offer to Manhattan College too. “I was so very excited when I heard they offered him,” Usilo told Braziller of Akilo joining him with the Jaspers. “I was like, ‘OK, we have no time to waste.’
“There’s nothing like staying with someone you can say is your brother.”
The duo both grew up, separately, in Nigeria before they eventually moved to America. Though they did meet once in a basketball camp in Nigeria, they became fast friends when they reunited here in New York.
